Modify IP address restrictions for assignments

When your course requires students to use your institution's servers to take tests or quizzes, you can remove or change the IP address restrictions for individual tests and quizzes. Settings at the assignment level override any IP address restrictions set at the course level.

You cannot set IP address restrictions on individual tests and quizzes if restrictions are not set at the course level.

You can modify restrictions for a single assignment or batch assign restrictions for multiple assignments.

Modify IP address restrictions for a single assignment

To change the IP address restrictions for a single test or quiz:

  1. Go to the Homework/Test Manager.
  2. Open the Create/Edit Assignment wizard:
    • If you are creating a new test or quiz, choose the appropriate option from the Create Assignment dropdown list.
    • If you are editing an existing test or quiz, select Edit from the Actions dropdown list for the assignment.
  3. In step 3 of the wizard, under Access Controls, edit the IP Address Range settings:
    • Uncheck the Students must access this assignment from the following IP address range box to remove all IP address restrictions.
    • Click Change to open the IP Address Range window, where you can edit or remove specific public IP address ranges.
  4. Click Save or Save and Assign in the Create/Edit Assignment wizard.
Modify IP address restrictions for multiple assignments

To change the IP address restrictions for multiple tests or quizzes:

  1. Go to the Homework/Test Manager.
  2. From the More Tools dropdown list, choose Change Settings for Multiple Assignments.
  3. From the Assignment Type dropdown list, choose Test or Quiz to see the applicable settings.
  4. To make your changes to specified assignments, select Specific Assignments and then click Choose to open a window where you can pick the assignments.
  5. In step 3 of the wizard, under Access Controls, edit the IP Address Range settings:
    • Uncheck the Students must access this assignment from the following IP address range box to remove all IP address restrictions.
    • Click Change to open the IP Address Range window, where you can edit remove specific public IP address ranges.
  6. Click Apply Settings on the Change Settings for Multiple Assignments page.
  7. Click Done to return to the Homework/Test Manager.
