Devizes School Raising Aspirations Building Futures
I am delighted to introduce you to Devizes School and give you a flavour of the ethos and culture that makes this such a special place to learn and work. Students, staff and parents are incredibly proud of their school. I had the privilege of taking up the Headteacher Post from Easter 2016. This is my second headship; I wanted to join Devizes School because the students and staff are wonderful ambassadors for what is great about education and lifelong learning. Staff are committed and passionate about their subjects and students are engaging and positive. I am fiercely ambitious for the school and the young people that we serve in our local community. I aim to build upon the current strengths of the school and particularly the strong work of my predecessors.
Devizes School is a Good School (Ofsted 2015) with learning at the heart of all that we do. We are a very forward-thinking school, always keen to do better. It is a very happy place in which to learn and work. Many who visit the school throughout the year comment on the calm and purposeful environment they find. The positive relationships between students and staff, based on mutual respect, are at the heart of high standards of teaching and learning which result in all students making good progress. “The school is a calm and supportive place in which to learn.” Ofsted 2015.
Students are polite and courteous to each other and to adults. “The behaviour of students is good.” Ofsted 2015.
The appreciation of the wider world is a particular strength of the school and was acknowledged by our recent Ofsted inspection. “The extensive range of extra-curricular activities enables students to participate in sporting and cultural events that would not otherwise be accessible to them.” Ofsted 2015.
Ofsted has graded the school GOOD on the last 4 occasions it has visited demonstrating our consistent focus for high standards at Devizes School.
Our results again last summer show that our students can and do achieve the highest possible grades, many going onto the top Russell Group Universities and others securing places at their preferred Universities all over the UK which will best support them in their intended career path.
At KS4 we have a similar story with many students achieving the top grades of A * , A and B grade and either securing places in our Sixth Form or going onto their preferred choices including apprenticeships, employment and training or other similar destinations.
